Unfortunately our Low Cost Hemodialysis project was not among the projects chosen for funding by Grand Challenges Canada. We were among the 300 projects out of 800+ that were selected for peer review and the reviewer felt that "the boldness of the approach and potential of the investigator makes the feasibility and scalability believable. Good project for large patient load in developing countries. Bold idea, strong proposal."
We are continuing to look for funding for the feasibility study and would welcome suggestions and leads for this worthwhile cause. One very welcome development is the recently anounced partnership between Medtronic and Apollo Hospitals to develop and market a low cost hemodialysis system in India. We hope that they keep it very affordable and launch it in other countries as soon as possible.
